Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Avi Ram was born and educated in Israel, with vast international experience gained in almost 15 years of working with entrepreneurs in South Africa, USA, UK, Europe and Switzerland. Avi acquired full company life-cycle experience, from setting-up and funding, through leading, investing and coaching, to selling and closing-down various startup ventures. Enjoy helping and working with exceptional people who have elegantly solved a valuable customer pain and now need top class project and general management expertise to realise their full commercial potential.

JB Woodruff

JB’s past has included technology consulting, marketing, graphic design, development, photography and travel.
In late 2012/early 2013 he left his consulting job and spent 6 months working with the 88mph accelerator in Nairobi, Kenya and Cape Town, South Africa. His experience there prompted him to return to Cincinnati with a new found passion for startup life. He has expanded his own business, JB Woodruff Design, to include more strategic client work. He has volunteered his time with the Inkubator at NKU and UpTech. He is currently working on multiple startup projects including: CampFinder.co, Kikai Mining, TodayForward, ShopN’ Money and Rathskeller Labs.

Brennan Sweeney

Brennan envisioned, conceptualized, founded, grew and successfully exited his own community association management firm in the Midwestern U.S. He was responsible for all aspects of the startup and ongoing operations of the firm through a successful exit through sale to the largest global company in its industry. Brennan led the firm through aggressive growth financed solely by cash flow from its operations. Sale of the firm returned over 1,700% on its owners investments within 6 years.
Brennan's prior experience includes being a sought after consultant in business processes, financial systems, and strategy for companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. He has operated his own consulting business while also spending more than 5 years working directly for some of the world's largest and most reputable consulting firms.
Mr. Sweeney has a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from the University of Kentucky.

Jim Cunningham

Since 2001 Jim Cunningham has been Executive Director of C-Cap,
Cincinnati’s angel capital hub, where he manages the operations of the
Queen City Angels group of early stage angel investors. Queen City
Angels is one of the top angel investor groups in the United States in
amounts invested. Jim also conducts mentoring and educational programs
for entrepreneurs, including the regionally-prominent Mentoring
Mornings and the Entrepreneur Boot Camp held each June, which has
trained over 500 entrepreneurs. He has reviewed several hundred
startup business plans for C-Cap. Jim is also President of The
Circuit, which is the information technology association of the
Cincinnati region.

Previously he was an officer of Car-Part.com, an internet portal
start-up, general counsel of a venture capital-backed software
company, and a partner in a large Cincinnati law firm. Jim holds law
degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of
London, England.

Drew Bachman

Drew has had a multitude of roles and responsibilities in entrepreneurial businesses, including CFO,

product development, IT, sales and marketing, manufacturing and web development. He has been

intimately involved in 11 transactions involving entrepreneurial businesses as both buyer and seller,

including two successful sales to private equity firms. His business-related passions include technology,

customer service, ideation, and maximizing the strengths of individual team members. Early in his

career, Drew was a CPA and business process and IT consultant for a Big 4 firm, and as a hobby he

started a small software business.

Recently, he has been helping to grow an industrial robotics business, and has been assisting various

groups in evaluating acquisition opportunities.

Joshua Johnson

Joshua is the CEO of Mindbox Studios, a digital agency focused on custom mobile and web software development for startups and enterprise businesses. His team of 25, with hubs in Oregon and Ohio, have worked with over 60 startups in three years from coast to coast. He is passionate about digital marketing, technology strategy, design, and user experience.

Joshua is also the founder of the Continuous Web tech and startup community. He is on the board of the Greater Cincinnati Venture Association, a frequent mentor with Morning Mentoring and the Entrepreneur Bootcamp, and a speaker on various technology and marketing panels. He lives in Cincinnati with his wife and three children.
